90 Mile Beach and the Te Paki Quicksand stream are two of the absolute highlights of a journey to Cape Reinga and ones that you'll miss if you choose to make the journey by car.

Rental car and campervan companies do not allow their vehicles onto the beach. If you take them you are uninsured.

The final stretch of road to Cape Reinga is unsealed, windy and treacherous to those not used to driving in such conditions.
